*Xandar Kardian’s CT100 sensors have the option of being battery powered with a CR2477 coincell battery. However, this option is only available for bathrooms where it may not be possible to bring hard-wire power source in the ceiling. All other applications are wired.

As IOT sensors gain more momentum, the debate over battery powered sensors and wired sensors are brewing. At first glance, battery (wireless) solutions may look attractive as it is easy to install and deploy. However, it is not “maintenance free”. Battery sensors all have different life spans based on usage. Some may last 15 months while some may need replacement in 12 months. Aside from incurring labour costs, there is a bigger problem with data loss. You are faced with “data holes” in your space utilization analytics. Another potential issue is in the increase of waste from having to replace alkaline batteries. Some sensors have to have 6 X AA batteries in the sensor.
